Lions Club of Howrah, a pioneer club in Kolkata, engaged in various philanthropic and service activities for more than last 6 decades. The club is organizing a poetical fundraising program “Jan Gan Man” featuring Dr. Kumar Vishwas in aid of their two hospitals on Sunday, 13th August 2023 from 5 pm at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, New Town. The details about club’s philanthropic activities and upcoming fundraising event were shared at a press conference on 9th August.
The Club has seven permanent projects, including two hospitals, Blood Bank, a deaf and dumb school, a First Aid Centre at Howrah Station, Gandhi Park at Howrah, a bus shelter etc. More than 26000 beneficiaries are getting benefited from these facilities every year.
Howrah Lions Hospitals provides facilities for IOL operations, general surgery, orthopedics, laparoscopy, an eighteen-bed dialysis unit, dental, X-ray, pathology, generic medicines, Naturopathy etc. with a dedicated team of renowned doctors & and paramedical staff. We also have an ambulance and bus for the patient. We have just started our dream project Blood Bank on 17th June 2023 at Jaduberia, Howrah. We are also going to start a modern diagnostic center at Howrah Lions Hospital, Jaduberia shortly. Renovation and modernization work is also going on in full swing at both hospitals.
The main objectives of these hospitals are to provide world-class medical facilities to the poor/ less fortunate citizens of society at affordable prices, or free of cost as per necessity. The shortfall is covered by the well-wishers and donors of the society and the members of the Lions Club of Howrah. Club spends almost Rupees 2.5 to 3 Crore every year on all our service projects. They are gradually improving our services in association with M/s Techno Electric & Engineering, Alcove group, M/s S K Oil Terminals Private Limited, M/s Anmol Industries, M/s Diamond Group, M/s. Larsen & Turbo Technology Services Ltd. (LTTS), M/s Asian Beverage Private Limited, M/s Menu Sarees, Natural Group, Pritam Electricals, Essence group, Saraogi Udyog, Param Enterprises, SKDJ group, MRT Signals, and many more.
Apart from permanent projects the Club is feeding almost 500 people daily through Annapurna ki Rasoi, the Food for Hunger program. Under Environment protection, they are planting 1 Lakh trees this year. The club is getting associated with the pediatric cancer department of Tata Memorial Hospital to support the prevention & and awareness of Childhood cancer. Every year the club organizes a free diabetes checkup & and awareness camp under Lions Clubs International, District-322B1
