Indian Chamber of Commerce under the aegis of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate organized an event ‘Baaghini 2’, focusing on the crucial theme of self-defence and Women Empowerment. The concluding ceremony of this prestigious event ‘Baaghini 2’ was held on 13 August at Sister Nivedita University at New Town. The event aimed to highlight the significance of empowering individuals, especially women, with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves effectively.
The Valedictory Session marked the commencement of the event, graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries and Mr Gaurav Sharma, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate (BDNPC). Ms. Krishna Chakraborty, Hon’ble Mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation graced the occasion as the esteemed Guest of Honor. Commending the police for this noble initiative she said police has now become friends of people and this kind of program will ensure women feel more confident approaching police and at the same time to fight any crimes against them. “Both men and women need to fight crime together – the fact that it has happened to someone else and not to self should not deter people from coming out to help victims.”
Mr. Gaurav Sharma, Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, speaking on the occasion said “Usually people and specially women are apprehensive of police. This event seeks to sensitize people about how the police functions. Additionally, we had sessions updating women and young female students about cyber crimes and all other laws protecting them.”
Mr Sharma interacted with the young women participants individually. Ms. Minu Budhia, Chair Person of Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Taskforce on Special Ability, was there. “Baaghini 2” will provide a platform for engaging discussions and insightful presentations on the importance of self-defence, Self-defence Techniques and strategies to enhance personal safety. This event brings together key figures from various fields, including law enforcement, academia, and community leaders, to exchange perspectives and address this crucial societal concern.
Indian Chamber of Commerce as the organizing Association feels that women already have the power in them, they have the strength and courage. BAAGHINI was the platform to give a spark and ignite all these qualities in women.
