Association of Corporate Advisers & Executives (ACAE) organised the 13th Prof. Sukumar Bhattacharya Memorial Lecture on the topic “INDIA The Party has just Begun” in Kolkata on 25th June. Prof. Sukumar Bhattacharya Memorial Lecture is a very prominent annual event and it gives the opportunity of listening from eminent personalities and thought leaders.
The speaker for this year’s lecture was Honourable Ambassador Dr. Deepak Vohra. Dr. Vohra is a renowned Indian diplomat and is currently the special advisor to Indian Prime Minister of India. Dr. Deepak Vohra, IFS (Retd), was the Special Advisor to the Autonomous Hill Development Council in Ladakh. Dr. Vohra’s spoke about India as a super power and how we as a country is going to become the third largest economy in a few years. He spoke of the commitment of the Government in ensuring that so stone was left unturned in achieving the desired results. His speech inspired each and every member of the association and other delegates. He also emphasised one and all to aspire in reaching greater heights in their professional careers. His level of energy and during the lecture was a role model for everyone.
Prof. Sukumar Bhattacharya was the founder Vice-President and later on the President of the ACAE. Prof. Sukumar Bhattacharya was an eminent expert on Taxation Laws, Chartered Accountant and an ex-member of the Central Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He had also passed the I.A.S. Examination, but did not join the service. He went on to become a Senior Advocate of Calcutta High Court/ Supreme Court. Prof. Bhattacharya had the rare distinction of being permitted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India as well as the Bar Council of West Bengal to carry on both the professions as a Chartered Accountant and also as an Advocate. He contributed number of articles on Direct Taxes in various journals and newspapers and he spoke at numerous national and international conferences on Direct Taxes and relevant matters. For ACAE, he was a fatherly figure because of his valued contribution and deep involvement with this Association since its inception to his last breath in 2005. The Association renders a yearly tribute to him by organising a Lecture Meeting in his memory. Infact this was the centenary year celebrations of Prof. Sukumar Bhattacharya.
The Lecture was attended by eminent personalities from the Counsels, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Institute of Company Secretaries of India and other professional bodies.
